Really. They just introduce a millitary spec-ed smartphone called Boeing Black. The hardware and the software on the phone is built from the grounds up for securely storing and transmitting data especially for the US defense and security community.

You get features like disk encryption, hardware root of trust, hardware crpto engine, embedded secure components, trusted platform modules and secure boot to safeguard your data. The phone will even go as far as to delete the data if it detects some is trying to break open the casing of the device.

The design is also modular to some extent, so you can remove the back cover and attach various modules such as extended battery, satellite transceivers, advanced location tracking sensors, etc.

On the specification side, the Boeing Black has a 4.3-inch, qHD display, 1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, microSD card slot, dual SIM support, Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR, 1590mAh battery and an unspecified version of Android.

No pricing or availability details have been revealed, yet. But i didn't expect these phones going on sale outside millitary either.

Look, that's all fine and good. But when Mr 4 Star General is dragged into yet another hearing on military abuses, the key question everyone will be asking is, can it play Angry Birds?

Angry Birds and Flappy Doge just need to go through the process of getting a Certificate of Networthiness, and then they'll be approved for limited deployment on a need-to-play basis.

So, the current versions will be approved.... Ten years from now?

I'll say it's 8.

Just look at that boeing phone, it's looks like it came from 2006.

Any heads up on battery overheating? Or grounding issues?

I'm no high flyer by any means but I do like a device that doesn't crash on me.

I was joking in regards to Boeings 787 Dreamliner.

But if this is a military application it will be late into service and subject to cost overruns in its development.

Keep the focus on airplanes, or make the phone less generic.

Don't forget about the features being axed for being too expensive, so by the time it's finished, it'll be an 8,000,000,000,000 device that's less powerful than the old Nokia brick phones.

My friend, you haven't worked with the government. The paperwork alone takes 8 years, before the actual testing can begin.

I really dig this phone, and while I'm not likely to use any of the military functions, at least it *may* turn out to be the smartphone equivalent of the Lenovo(IBM) ThinkPad - indestructible and dependable if a little dated in hardware.

That was a One Ronnie special. It used to be The Two Ronnies several years ago until Ronnie Barker died. Ronnie Corbett came back recently with The One Ronnie show pretty recently and the humour is pretty old style English humour.

There are many clips on Youtube if you look up 'one ronnie' or 'one ronnie bbc'.
